Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!
What you have for breakfast sets you up for the day; if you are trying to lose weight / bodyfat then this is extremely important. The right choice at breakfast can leave you full for 4 hours, while the wrong choice can put you on the blood sugar rollercoaster – up and down all day long.
For years we have been fed (pardon the pun) this myth that breakfast should be a made up of cereal, toast, fruit or juice. Well it is all BS, too many people start their day with breakfast that are too carbohydrate dominant. Starting your day with cereal, toast, muesli, with coffee or juice is not right if you want long lasting energy. You need to add Protein and Fat into your breakfast; this will not only keep you fuller longer, it will also kick start your metabolism and help you burn off that bodyfat.
Your current breakfast sucks!
The majority of cereals and even breads, are heavily processed which is 2 fold problem, highly processed foods no longer contain key nutrients such as fibre and are broken down too rapidly – causing a spike in blood sugar. As a result our body (pancreas) releases insulin – to lower the dangerous blood sugar level (hence the rollercoaster).
Juices contain loads of sugar – sometimes the equivalent of soft drinks! So while you may get a minuscule amount of vitamins (usually fortified) you are in fact just drinking sugary water. Your morning latte doesn’t fair much better – it too can also take you on a ride on the blood sugar rollercoaster.
Well if you don’t already know, I suggest you go back to the beginning and start reading again. Add Protein and Fat to your breakfast. Replace jam on you toast with 2 eggs. Try cottage cheese, bacon, smoked salmon for starters before you move up to the next level (coming soon). Also look at cutting out highly processed grains such as white breads and steering clear of breakfast cereals, and if you if you need you morning hit of caffeine try not to add sugar.
